The big difference there is that the OP would also have to deal with traffic on 101 through Burlingame and San Mateo, which is not the briskest.

San Mateo Bridge easy... I go between Redwood City and Oakland a lot. The Bay Bridge is always slow, and ditto for 101 going away from the city. While 280 isn't slow going up to the city it can be slow going away from it. 580 to Hayward to the san mateo to 92 is the fastest option. What part of San Mateo are you commuting to?

I just timed it again - left house at 8:14, got to Hayward at 8:28, was on 92 freeway at 8:40, at office in Belmont (west of SM) at 9:00. Piece of cake That's with FasTrak.

This week has been a weird traffic week. I'd wait till things are a bit more representative. Summer tends to be light. And there hasn't been much Bay Bridge traffic lately either. Something weird is going.

It's normal for summer. In the afternoon, the 101 approach to the lower deck is still crammed every day starting from the 280 merge, from 2 pm to at least 8 pm.

Even when it's not summer, my commute tops out at 50 minutes, max (barring a major accident). Also the OP is only commuting for a week, this week, so the commute at other times is probably moot.

Thank you all for your input. To let you know it turned out: I took 580, then went through the Hayward streets to connect to the San Mateo. I would leave Rockridge around 7:15-7:30 and it took between 50 minutes and a little over an hour to arrive in San Mateo. I was quite pleasantly surprised by how little traffic there was. A much easier drive than I had been expecting.

The Bay Bridge is not that backed up anymore in the morning. That is just from my experience of having to get to an appointment at 9:30 am in San Francisco.

Great. This is the same way I would travel from my home in East Oakland (580 side) to Redwood City (like LMK1707).
