Hello People

I am moving from Fremont to SF.I am working with a company at Market street .Would like to take suggestions where and how to locate one apartment costing around 1000-2000 USD . I am from India basically . Don't mind sharing 2 room set . One room is preferred though .

That is a huge price range. You can afford your own place starting at $1200 (for a studio. 1BR will run upwards of $1500). I assume you will be working in the Financial District. The majority of public transportation ends there, so you have lots of options.

If you want to walk to work, check out Lower Nob Hill, North Beach, South Beach, SOMA. If you are okay taking a bus or light rail, there are lots of options. You need to do some research on what type of neighborhood you'd like to live in and how long of a commute you'd like. Here is a good start:

Craigslist is the best way to find an apartment in San Francisco.

Studios are about $1000-1200 in SF but there are some that are cheaper but they are hard to get. A 1 bedroom would be around $1400 at least in a nice area.

Avoid the Tenderloin which is really not a nice area. It is near downtown and Market so there are a lot of ads for apartments on craigslist that are in the Tenderloin that are listed as "Union Square" or "Lower Nob Hill" or "downtown" but they are all in the Tenderloin.

There are a lot of nice neighborhoods and it just depends on what you like and where you can get an apartment--often getting an apartment in SF is tough because there's a lot of competition, so just be persistent. Also you're near SF so I would recommend you come in to the city for a day on the weekend and check out different areas.
