It seems that in the "gay mecca" there's no clubs to go to beyond the tiny, insanely packed bars of the Castro. It's really annoying that there's no where to go to let loose and dance...

Where are the parties?!

Castro is a neighborhood with neighborhood bars and very small loungy clubs. I think Ruby Skye (Union Square area) does a big event once a month, but the era of big gay dance clubs ended about 15 years ago. People just aren't into that as much these days. They'd rather go to a hip wine bar or cool restaurant.

Polk St. has a gay club, as well as gay bars that always seem to be hopping but not "I can't move my elbows" crowded.

SF and they gay thing is way overplayed anyways, outside of the Castro SF is really no gayer than another other city.

Mayorhaggar is right - look towards SOMA. That neighborhood has the space for large dance clubs. I went to a gaysian (sp?) club once -- somewhere around Folsom and 8th.

Yes they are. I was not aware of the OP looking for dance clubs within the Castro per se, right?

You might check the fliers/handouts inside-usually placed in a corner of the many clothing stores/bars/hair salons/cafes etc all around the city.

Sometimes the "parties" are somewhat underground, have no one single permanent location, and are in warehouses that have been rented out by the organizers. Ask the bartenders too- they usually know of what's going on.
