That seems kind of rough.

They do it in many school districts, even the GOOD ones. Just like people used to wait in line and lotteries trying to buy houses in the South Bay.

Lines are a part of life. Do you HAVE a drivers license? Exactly.

And thank god, because if the "old guard"(or as I call them provincial local yokals) had their way silicon valley would still be orchards...

You might be right, although it seems that our own fantastic guy is a also a mod around here (with a different name) and a different personality....or at least that's what all the drive by postings from the last day or so said...until they mysteriously disappeared....

but I digress. Music is on the list of things to do, yes, I'm working on getting the gang back into the swing of things after a huge summer vacation (34 days on the Big Island!)

I'd better respond to this before it vanishes as we are talking about that again. Sometimes I wonder. If that's true, one has to wonder about someone who would do that.

Then again, I have my doubts. If our mod and Craptastic were the same person, I would have been gone long time ago after one of my attacks on him a while back.

I'm still writing songs too but can't record them yet as a key piece of equipment had to be sent away to get fixed.

Anyway, you know the Bay Area and have lived in Berkeley and Sonoma County. What's your take on this?

I lived in Irvine, and MV, both cities served by great school districts and never, ever heard of any parent having to wait in line to attend a 9 or 10 rated school in their respective zip code.

The fact that you're defending "waiting in line for days" to go to a school that isn't a dropout factory shows that there is something seriously skewed with your perspective.

Why do you care? Why are you still arguing about this? Don't you have a life of your own that's marvelous enough to keep you occupied with ANYTHING other than trying to bash a city you don't even live in?

Oh yeah...

When it comes down to it, it's about the kids man. Think about the kids.

Lines are common in urban school districts. Last time I checked, your examples are suburban areas. (See NYC, SF...)

Since one of the primary reasons to move to the suburbs is for the "great schools" it would be pretty sad if you had to wait in line in Irvine.

That may be true, but Oakland isn't comparable to NYC and S.F by any stretch of the imagination.

Bottom line, Oakland has an extremely high drop out rate, even when considering special charter schools, that's very telling.
