So I've lived in SF proper for 15 years and am looking to finally move away. There is a lot I LOVE about being here, but also a lot I don't. I think I'm less of a city girl at heart, so I'm looking to simplify.

The one thing I absolutely LOVE about SF and would stay here forever for despite all the things I dislike, is the climate. I LOVE the fog, the overall cooler weather, the lack of really hot days--much of what others complain about.

I wonder if there are any other cities in California (CA first, US and world after) that have similar climates. Even other bay area or N.Cal cities (Bodega, Sea Ranch, Pt Reyes) or central coast (pismo, SLO). As I'm a native and have family here I'd like to stay in CA, but I'm also a world traveler and would consider other parts of the world.

I'm looking to buy a home and settle down, and just can't afford that here, and am not willing to move inland into the heat to do it.

Any insight is appreciated!

All of the places you mentioned. Look at Los Osos & Morro Bay in SLO county. The Monterey peninsula would work as well. Or you can always go to New Zealand.

Here's another thread asking the same question: //www.city-data.com/forum/san-f...francisco.html

Towns and cities I'd suggest are Half Moon Bay, Mendocino, and a little south would be Salinas. AFAIK, Salinas isn't trendy but has the weather you want, and because it's Not Trendy, I'd think prices would be a little lower.

I'd check out the Central Coast. Avila Beach, Morro Bay, Pismo, etc. I'd say it's slightly warmer than SF, while Mendocino is slight colder and definitely wetter. I'm not a fan of Mendocino. I went once, left SF in 75F weather and arrived to 52F weather in Mendocino, although it was sunny. And it's no more scenic than the Monterey Peninsula or other parts of the coast.

Like, going from a dead stop to 60 in a second to avoid getting killed on 101? That, after a ten-fifteen minute wait to do so.

Outside of California or the west coast, your best bet is probably the coast of France. Try Bordeaux.. or maybe Nice or Marseilles (although the latter two are probably more similar to Walnut Creek or San Jose.)

Cool guys, THANKS!!
I'm from Merced originally, so the central coast does have some appeal, but I also don't necessarily want to move to a completely sleepy town.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Monterey and surrounding areas as well as Mendocino are prohibitively expensive for home ownership.
Maybe I will have to go out of country.

Well that's why I mentioned Salinas; though it's not as upscale as some of the other places, neither is it as expensive. And I'm pretty sure it has the weather you want and it's not that far away from Toney & Trendy.

The town of Volcano, Hawaii has VERY similar weather. Check it out!
