It's not ghetto in the way that parts of Oakland, Vallejo, and East Palo Alto area.

As someone said, it feels to me like a bigger, more sprawling Redwood City - minus the nicer parts in the Western section of the city.

Nope. Fairview is dangerous after dark. Lotsa car crime.

OK, Hayward isn't like it used to be in the fifties & sixties when I grew up off Whitman Road. But one thing is still very good: The weather. The garden soil. That old neighborhood of ours had been an apricot orchard before it became a subdivision. Now it is fairly ugly, no trees, dead lawns, just a scorched earth policy I think. But you CAN make lovely gardens in Hayward any time you want, and escape ugliness.
