Hello,

I'm planning to visit sfo for three days, friday-sunday in November. I've never been to be SFO before, this is the first time. I'm coming with my wife and 7 months old baby. I would really appreciate if someone gives me schedule so that I can best utilize to see most of the places. My friend suggested me Lake Tahoe wil be good.

Also,I was trying to book hotels on Priceline, and it's asking me to choose the below area, can some one suggest which is not good neighborhood, so I'll strike it out from my list. Thanks for all your help!

Civic Center
Financial District - Embarcadero
Fisherman's Wharf
Marina - Lombard Street
SFO North - San Bruno
SFO international Airport - Burlingame
SOMA - Moscone Center
San Mateo
South San Francisco
Union Square East
Union Square West - Nob Hill

Scratch the Civic Center and be wary of what's called "Union Square." Anything west of Mason can get a bit gnarly. Not that unsafe, in my opinion, as I work down in the Tenderloin, but if you're not used to the area it can be a bit worrysome (and gross for that matter). Fisherman's Warf is fine and very touristy. Lombard/Marina is also fine. So's the Embarcadero, especially if you're close to the Ferry Building (something I highly recommend while you're here). I wouldn't bother staying in San Mateo or any of the SFO areas as it's too far away to make it enjoyable.

Tahoe is always nice. As is Yosemite. I highly recommend Sonoma County for wine tasting. Napa gets all the press but I personally prefer the wine and the attitude of Sonoma. Most tastings are free and the poncyness is kept to a minimum - at least in my experience. If you'd like some recommendations of places, I'd be more than happy to oblige - Unti on Dry Creek Road being my personal favorite. Fisherman's Wharf? Meh. Although Alcatraz is a good crack and the Wharf is how you'd get there.

If you have some more specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Lake Tahoe is 4 hours away, I would not go there unless you had more time to spend there. South San Francisco, San Mateo, Burlingame and San Bruno are all bedroom community suburbs to the south of SF. You can get some deals at hotels down there by the airport but it is a hassle to get to SF. Avoid hotels in the Tenderloin, which is west of Union Square and starts west of Mason. There are a lot of tourist hotels in the Tenderloin and they often advertise as "downtown" or "Civic Center" or "Nob Hill" or "Union Square" but they are all in the Tenderloin which is full of homeless people, junkies and drug dealers. No fooling.

Here are some things that should be ok with a toddler:

- go to Fisherman's Wharf and get some seafood
- go to Alcatraz but only if you reserve tickets way in advance, they sell out quickly
- go to Haight Street and walk around
- go to Golden Gate Park (right next to the Haight)
- go to SFMOMA
- go shopping in Union Square
- go to North Beach and Chinatown (right next to one another)
