Interestingly, Pelosi's opponent, John Dennis, is polling much better against her than any Republican has in many years, to the point that some Republicans are already boasting about Pelosi losing her seat. I'm voting for Dennis, because he supports Prop 19 unlike Pelosi. However, I'm not optimistic about his chances of winning ; Pelosi most likely will just win with 55-60% of the vote compared to her usual 70% plus.

I'm so out of the loop on that race. Thanks for that update

California will survive as it always has since it truly is the "Golden State" head and shoulders more interesting and more progressive than any other state. What state would even allow their citizens to vote on legalizing marijuana? We should all be grateful to live in California and not let people who are more like Southerners provoke arguments; deep down inside they hate California because it is everything they are not.
With the way things are ($19bil deficit, interest on bonds, layoffs, clever folks leaving, etc...) , the only way California will "survive as it always has" will be by bumming cash off of the (themsleves bankrupt) Feds, begging for money internationally, taxing the last remnants of legitimate businesses and middle class out of state, or by defying Uncle Sugar and just going right into the pot growing business full steam and selling and exporting drugs. And it will be the most progressive state this country has ever seen.

Probably, I'm older than dirt. How well anything plays depends upon to whom you are spaking at that point in time. I am not a political animal; it doesn't bother me one way or the other. I've lived to see some wondertul and interesting things in my life - and it's a lot better than viral ads. In fact I reamember when candidates actually debated and politicians listened. It's been a long time; doctors were still making house calls.

If you remember doctor home visits, as do I, then you're decidedly a member in good standing of the old fart set.

Amazing, isn't it, that at one time candidates for office actually discussed issues and policy? Not only that, they did so in relatively constructive and civil terms. It was a far cry from the personal attacks and sound bites that are considered debates and political ads in the current society.

At least the last edit to my post was done so in a humorous way

Curmudgeon, there was actually a time when issues were discussed? Now I don't think I've ever seen that before. I think this is why I haven't kept myself up to speed much on a lot of these races. I don't know much about the candidates other than what they're able to dig up on their opponents.

Yeah! Hard to believe, isn't it. I really believe Richard Nixon's demise as President was the starting point for the extreme and unhealthy partisanship, name-calling and character assination that pervades today's politics. Before that there were differences but they were dealt with and discussed far more civilly. Now it's mostly ad hominem attacks from both sides of the political spectrum. We now have career politicians rather than statesmen.

It's the ADHD kids. And the Ritalin.

They're getting to voting age.

That's why I think Republicans in California either leave the state or learn to accept that they do not think like and vote like their neighbors except in farm counties in the Central Valley. Ever consider Bakersfield?
This Republican left. I agree you outnumber us. But it's to your doom that you do. All you have to do is look around, and see that California is sinking. And it will only get worse. People like myself are taking my cash, job skills, tax dollars and good credit to another state. Oh, I know - you'll say "good riddance" because you're dream is to be left with fellow lefties, to sit by the light of your twisty bulbs, reading your poetry, polishing your birkenstocks and drinking your wine. You won't even see that you're surrounded by more people sucking at the govt teat than are contributing.
