Hi,
I'm relocating to SF at the end of Nov., and I'm thinking about finding a month-to-month rental so that I can spend some more time looking for a place. I was wondering what the best time of the year to rent a place is, in terms of having greater selection? If it matters, I'm interested in either SOMA or The Mission.

Thanks,
Praveen

Probably the warmer months, like from March or April to October. It can rain a lot in winter so maybe a lot of people try to avoid moving out of their old places. Also a lot of college students move out of their places at the end of the school year, but they also flood the market throughout the summer as they try to find places to live.

Because it doesn't get really cold in the Bay Area I imagine that there should be apartments available throughout the year (in Chicago the rental market pretty much shuts down in winter), but there just might not be as many available in the winter. But you wouldn't be competing with as many people as in summer. So I think if you can take your time to find something you should be fine.

I was just looking for apartments (signed a lease today, woo!) and everyone was telling me the market was dead and they have a lot of inventory. I got the pick of the best floor plans at the complex and got an A+++ location.
