Too vague. Can't help unless you are more specific.

Well, I would like a kind of fantasy hotel... something different for the week end.

I have seen the Phoenix hotel but some reviews are not very good... do you know about it ?

Also few years ago, there were this Radisson Hotel in Japantown but I can't find it anymore...

I just want to come back with great souvenirs...

Thanks

Does anyone know about the "Carlton Hotel" and the "Halcyon Hotel" ?
They are not very fantasists but they are close downtown, cheap and have good reviews...

There are some nice hotels in Japantown. J-Town is a 10 minute bus ride from downtown on the 38L and you can take other buses to get around the city pretty easily but it's not the most convenient place for getting to tourist sites. The Best Western Tomo is like $140 a night and pretty nice, the rooms and lobby have a quirky anime theme. It's definitely nicer than most Best Westerns. The Kabuki hotel is across the street and used to be the Radisson. It's even nicer than the Best Western Tomo but I think it's more expensive.

Someone here recently recommended a hotel on Lombard that was pretty cheap, I can't remember the name though. There are also hotels near the airport that are cheap but then you have to figure out a way to get downtown, you could to get a taxi or shuttle to Millbrae BART but BART doesn't run very frequently from Millbrae to SF.

Yes, I have stayed at the Phornix. It's cool, but kind of a party hotel, if that's what you are looking for. Also the neighborhood is dodgy by most people's standards and probably would not suit you.

The Carlton is also a JdV hotel, which is a great group.

I haven't stayed at the Carlton, but I do know that it is great.

The Tomo is also a jdv and that is supposed to be cool anime style and it's in Japantown as well. Not as expensive as the Kabuki, though, which is also jdv and more traditionally japanese looking.

I really like Tivoli near Alamo Square - lots of character and the rooms are huge with antique decorations.

The Chateau Tivoli
