I just got hired at a company in Brisbane. I'm in my early 20s and looking to live in a fun part of San Francisco with other young people.

Given that I have to drive to Brisbane to get to work, (and would need parking) what areas in San Francisco would allow for a decent commute during rush hour? How much difference does it make if I live in somewhere like Bernal Heights or Noe Valley as opposed to the Marina in terms of rush hour commute times?

Are there any parts of SF that would make this commute really quick and easy?

I do not want to live on the peninsula, I want to live in the city. Rent price is not that big of an issue, but if possible I would prefer to share a house and spend less than 1,000.

Bernal Heights/Noe Valley would be HUGELY better than the Marina for a driving commute. You wouldn't even have to get on the freeway if traffic was slow on 101, just take Alemany/Cortland/Cesar Chavez to Bayshore Blvd. From the Marina, it can be 20 minutes+ just to get to the Central Freeway.

Yeah, Bernal Hill, Noe Valley, anywhere in the Mission (stay west of Mission St. to avoid crime/grime) and Glen Park would be good areas.

Is Bayshore Blvd usually pretty easy driving in the morning during rush hour? Or does it back up?
Thanks!

Bayshore Blvd is free flowing with very few lights going through the Bayview.. when you get to Vis Valley it's denser, then it opens up again as you continue to Brisbane. I wouldn't necessarily use it every day, but it would be a good alternative when 101 has problems.
