Well here is SF for you:

Think twice before going to a coffee shop!

Gunman corners victim in coffee shop, kills him

Don't go to nightclubs!

Man who died after club brawl was UCSF med student

Looks like with eight random murders in 2011 already, SF is going to give Oakland some tough competition.

Please do leave your house! Just make sure you hangout at the donut shops because they also sell coffee and thats where SFPD hang out.

Yeah, North Oakland and the Hills are safer than the Tenderloin and parts of SOMA. Big news. Still wouldn't take a casual stroll in West Oakland.

The nature of many crimes in SF is really random and spread out all over the city. Atleast in Oakland most crime is restricted to certain areas and certain shady types of people.

SF criminals are unpredictable. One reason to carry a gun with you on your person there. To hell with the bull****.

I agree. People seem to think just setting foot in Oakland is setting yourself up to get shot, but we all know most crime in Oakland isn't all that random.

I feel a lot safer in many Oakland neighborhoods than I do in SF.

Rockridge is definitely cleaner and quieter than anywhere in SF, and I definitely feel safer there than just about anywhere in SF.

Jade and mayorhaggar are spot on.

Like I've said before I use a lot of caution and constantly look over my shoulder when in SF. I've been like that in that city ever since growing up in the east bay. In Oakland, you know which areas to avoid and unless you live in those areas, you will not just accidentally stumble into one. Not the case in SF.
