I have the option to take a new job in Dublin and am looking for an affordable place to live (under $300,000). The Brentwood area seemed nice, but I don't want too bad of a commute, can anyone tell me the commute time to Dublin in rush hour and also the commute time to Dublin in minimal traffic? Also are there ay other good places with a reasonable commute to Dublin with decent homes under $300,000 and in a safe neighborhood?

Does not exist. The Bay Area has very limited options for $300K.

To get to the immediate Bay Area from Brentwood, there is one 2 lane highway and a long street that goes through Livermore. Everyone who needs to go anywhere takes one of those options, so you'll have all of the Brentwood commuters + Antioch Commuters + Pittsburg commuters. Once you finally get to Concord, you still have 30 minutes to go. If you take Vasco, it is probably a bit faster, but then you run into the westbound commuters on 580. On a no traffic day it would take about 45 minutes to get to Dublin from Brentwood. In the evenings all routes to Brentwood will be ridiculously trafficy.

You are going to need to give something up: price, space, newness or proximity or safety. Sorry to burst your bubble.

There are condos (about 2 bedrooms) available in nice areas for Oakland for $300K, that would be about a 25 minute commute to Dublin. It would be a reverse commute so the time it would take would be pretty consistent. You could also possibly find a few smaller older condos/houses in Castro Valley in that range. That would be a really easy commute to Dublin.

That would be a horrible commute. You'd have to either take Vasco Rd., which is a dangerous, two-lane road that I believe is owned and maintained by PG&E - people drive fast, and sometimes pass cars & get in head-on collisions, or you'd have to take 4 to 680, and both are always jammed with traffic. For $300k I'd suggest Dublin itself, or Livermore. Houses in Livermore.

Livermore might be a good idea to cut short the commute to 15/20 mins, not sure it won't take you close to an hour in the mornings from brentwood

You can pick up a condo for under $300K. Of course you will have HOA dues which can be in the hunderds per month. If you are moving from another area why not just rent for awhile? You might not even like your job in Dublin. Also check out Castro Valley, reverse commute and BART might make it work for you.

The Baywood area of Castro Valley has older, smaller homes that are less expensive, also because they are in the Hayward school District, which is not as good as Castro Valley. Still, these homes run $400k and up, but you might find a short sale for your price range. It's in the area between Foothill and Redwood road, Grove and the BART station.
