I'm pissed that I will probably miss this as I will be in Tahoe Thursday through Sunday. I've never seen snow in the Bay Area outside of the hills. I doubt though that it will cause too many problems, probably will be very wet, not stick to roads well, and melt fairly quickly but who knows. But if it does snow really low can you guys please take a bunch of pics? haha. I think it will look so cool if the entire Bay Area gets covered in some snow.

What type of palm do you have?

The cold air will filter in Saturday morning. Friday morning and afternoon commutes should be fine except possibly over a 1000 feet. The caldicot tunnel should be fine. 17 may be a bit dicey. North bay hills may be a bit dicey. altimont pass should be fine. Saturday morning and throughout the day if there is moisture will probably be dicey everywhere.

Some more info from NWS SF

I would like to see some snow on the steep streets and the resulting chaos.... Looking forward to a bad weather holiday on Friday.

Accuweather sez for Oakland high of 54 and low of 38 on friday, then high of 52 and low of 36 on saturday...that's cold but not so bad and wouldn't mean snow. Things could change though I've always noticed that weather reports in the Bay Area seem to change day by day more than in other parts of the US.

This is exciting! A reminder of back when I lived in Michigan.

On another note, I have a test at SFSU on Saturday morning and live on one of the previously mentioned high hills. This could get interesting.

They will be fine. Just make sure they are watered. I would be more concerned about wind damage. You would have to have many days of freezing temperatures to damage them.

Maybe at Oakland and Sf airports you'll find those temps. Elevated and areas that hold cold air will be different. Its the potential freezing after precipitation that I would be concerned with.

Looks like the storm is expected to come in Thu evening now, so Fri could be a messy commute for some. If the level does fall down to a 1,000 ft or lower that would put snow at the Caldecott Tunnel and Altamont Pass.

Snowstorm picks up speed, bears down on Bay Area (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/02/23/MNHV1HT2T6.DTL&tsp=1 - broken link)
