He's cute but not that cute.

Well, this brings puppy love to a whole new level. An 11-month-old red Tibetan mastiff has become the world's most expensive dog after being purchased in China for 10 million yuan (just over $1.5 million).

Although the specifics of the sale are confidential, the seller divulged that a multi-millionaire coal baron from northern China purchased the Tibetan mastiff, affectionately called "Big Splash," or "Hong Dong" in Chinese.

That is pretty disturbing. I am sure they will want to get their investment back in the form of tons of puppies!

Someone who wishes to show off should buy diamonds or cars, certainly not a living creature. My older dog (11) was a show dog rescue. He was three when I got him and didn't even know how to walk on a leash. He probably had spent three years in a crate.

I know that an expensive dog needs love just as much as one who was free like my two. But it's disgusting when an animal's life is about money.

He is cute, but won't love you any more than a dog from a shelter.

I don't know about that. All dogs do love - my mutt rescued from a kill shelter and purebred from a reputable breeder BTW, both love us. The only difference is that I don't know the parents of my mutt. I have no idea what the background of that dog in the OP is though. I am sure the breeder did zero health testing even with making that much money.

I can only see this encouraging backyard breeders who are solely $$$-driven.

He looks more like a bear than a dog!
