Gender Discrimination? Peksy reproductive organs standing in the way of total "equality".

Quote:
There are G.G.M.G. play groups for a long list of affinity groups, including lesbians, Farsi speakers, children with food allergies, vegetarians, former New Yorkers — even “nerdy” types who like Yoda hats.

But men, of any affinity, are out of the question.

Bevan Dufty, a former city supervisor and current mayoral candidate, was aghast when told the young banker’s story. “I cannot imagine that this isn’t gender discrimination,” said Mr. Dufty, who is gay. “It seems to me that the club is straight up denying public accommodation provided to other individuals.”

As a gay male whose been seriously considering adopting lately, I dont see the need to intrude on this group. Perhaps gay dads can form their own group. If I do choose to adopt, I wouldnt mind such a resource.

Though I won't deny that it's gender discrimination, I will say that women do need a safe haven sometimes to just be with other women, in an environment free of men. It's a private club - they have no obligation to include men if they don't want to.

Im just saying. This is an organization for Mothers, who are Women-and there's nothing wrong with them wanting an organization for themselves.

As far as gender discrimination, the same could be said of men and women having their own restrooms. Why shouldnt we be forced to use the same restroom?(rhetorical)

In any event, I do understand why he would want to join. Maybe to gain insight on raising children?

Of course it's gender discrimination. So what? Freedom of association. If the group wants to be discriminatory that's their right.

I agree with Rascal, women sometimes need an environment that is testosterone free.

18Montclair, good luck with your journey.
My dh and I are adopting

Give me break.

Women have been complaining for years about men's working clubs not letting them in the front door.

Holding regular protests outside & dragging the issue through courts.

Typical females, adopt the policy when it suits them, jump up and down screaming when it does not! :-)

I would have no problem with this policy, except for the hypocrisy & double standards at play.

One group has enjoyed hegemony over the other for the duration of history. Letting the latter have their moments of solidarity ought not provoke resentment or fear.

I'd actually be surprised Montclair, if there isn't already a gay parents group established. Have you looked into it?

Seems like you could even start one easily since there's obviously a need!
