I'm moving to San Francisco early in the summer, and I have a week to kill before starting my job. Tell me good things to do to get acquainted with the city. I've never been there before, and I'll be staying in the Bernal Heights area.

I am a movie & food & history/architecture lover, if that helps.

- stroll up and down Valencia Street checking out bookstores

- hike to top of Bernal Hill for a great view of the city

- go to Bi-Rite on 18th Street and pick up a picnic lunch and eat it in Dolores Park. Go to the SW corner of the park for a nice view of downtown SF.

- Go to Japantown for food. I recommend Osakaya for their Katsu Curry.

Otherwise just go anywhere that tickles your fancy, like Union Street, the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, etc. SF is a fun town to wander around because it's so walkable.

  • Great food along the Valencia STreet / Mission district area.
  • Friday/Saturday nights in the Powell St/Columbus Ave area seem to have a lot to choose from (music, bars, cabarets)
