I use "Frisco" almost exclusively when I'm visiting. It gets me dirty looks but I surmise that is due to insane jealousy.

Something I think is funny is that people who have never lived in SF think that people who live here think you're not supposed to call it Frisco, but they think it's ok to call it San Fran, when people here sometimes call it Frisco as kind of a joking ironic term, and never ever say San Fran.

I've heard a number of people just call it "the city." I suppose if you were raised in the Bay Area as opposed to the East Coast, you could say that..

Yes, I get insanely jealous whenever I hear Frisco. Or San Fran. Too bad dirty looks don't travel well over the "internet tubes".

"The Fran"? That's a first for me. Has anyone actually heard it called this?

Call it "The Fran" in front of a SF'er and prepared to get jumped lol. They take they're names seriously over there.

I call it Frisco - as do most Bay Area black, latino & tongan people - but I don't hang around people who would take offense to that. When I'm not talking to friends I call it the City.
