I think we need the homeless from both metros to chime in as to which is worse.

The person closest to the problem is the definitive answer.

Yes. It has. Almost everywhere. It is not only a national problem, it is an international problem. It skyrocketed during the Great Recession ... then plateaued for a half dozen years. Now last year it increased quite a bit again. It goes up and down with changing economic fortunes, right? California has some of the nation’s highest rents and real estate pricing ... so homelessness is particularly high ... in the whole state.

California has 25% of the entire country's homeless population and all the California metros have more unsheltered homeless than sheltered, while other metros have more sheltered than unsheltered homeless.

Yes, that’s true. California cities have failed to step up as well as some other states’ cities.

But at least other cities have done a good job sheltering most of them. Makes me question what California actually does with all its tax revenue and high fees, and fines.
