There's a thread about blacks leavign the Bay and going to places like Tracy, Stockton, and Sacramento. The Census says that whites are leaving the Bay Area to. Where are they headed?

Yup.

The central valley and Sacramento area are by far the biggest recipients of people of all races who leave the Bay Area.

I recall reading somewhere that over 90% of people leaving the Bay Area move within 100 miles from their previous place of residence, which is remarkable from a regional perspective.

This is a trend we see going back about 20 years now.

During that same 20 years, a significant number have moved to Washington State. When I was working in Oakland at a utility I ran
a report showing where people leaving the area moved to (from their new mailing addresses) back in 1992. Numbers 1 and 2 were about 75% of them, 3-5 20% and the last 5% were scattered all over.

1. Washington State
2. Oregon
3. Arizona
4. Florida
5. Elsewhere in CA

That may have been the case at that time, but 1995-2000 county-to-county migration stats from the Census Bureau shows that the overwhelming majority of the outmigration in the Bay Area was definitely to the Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto Area. Reno was the biggest destination outside of CA.

Is that why Stockton area is doing so badly now with foreclosures?

Oh absolutely.

People who never should have been qualified for loans were allowed to buy $700,000 tract houses out in Tracy and Manteca and then when rates adjusted and payment ballooned-people lost their homes by the thousands and those homes in the 700s and 800s plunged in value to the 200s and 300s.

It was a bloodbath that they still have not recovered from yet.

I think a lot of people are moving to AZ, CO, and or TX. Why are these types of threads created?

Whites (or Chinese or Indians or Jews) aren't a monolith

Smartest, most ambitious of any kind who grow up anywhere tend to attend best college to which they can gain admission...and then seek an initial employer offering most lucrative initial career opportunities

Given nature of US' tech and finance-driven economy, most of world's smartest college grads (of any kind/color) seem to show up for work post-grad in either PaloAlto area or Manhattan

And dumbest/laziest of any kind/color tend to stay wherever they grew up (Mommy's basement is rent-free) and ideally capture a skill-free $100K+/yr gvt/nonprofit union job in CA or NYC...or, if that fails, move to places like LV or FL or AZ for jobs in skill-free industries like travel/tourism/retailing/call centers/real estate, etc (when such industries offer employment)

For the last 20 years whites head north. Oregon, Washington, Montana amongst other places.

Personally I got white friends who moved to Seattle, Florida, Kentucky, Nevada, Socal, Utah, Denver, Phoenix, Texas, new Mexico, Hawaii, NY, South Carolina, DC, Idaho, and Montana.

Instate they ALL moved to the valley and sacto. Tracy, Lodi, Manteca, etc... Black friends who left the state went to Nevada, Phoenix, Chicago, and st Louis.
