I have decided to move cross country to SF from NYC. I have looked into different neighborhoods and cannot decide on one.
I am a single 26F and would like a safe neighborhood close to public transportations, restaurants, and cafes. I was wondering if someone can give me more tips and compare the west neighborhoods ( which i heard are more foggy, and how foggy do they get) to the east.
I am willing to spend $1800 for rent. I have considered, bernal heights, inner richmond, inner sunset, western addition, north beach and marina.
I will commute to UCSF medical center for work.
Also would anyone recommend living more like sausalito and commute?

The best public transit route to UCSF is the N-Judah light rail line. The best places to hop on it are Hayes Valley and the Duboce Park area and the NW corner of the Mission near where you can get the N at Duboce Park, or the Lower Haight. Maybe check out Cole Valley too.

The western neighborhoods aren't so much foggy as just really cloudy and windy most of the time, even when it's sunny and 10 degrees warmer in the eastern part of the city. It's just kind of dismal really. I'd choose Hayes Valley or somewhere around Duboce Park because they're neat areas and are a quick ride to UCSF. North Beach is kind of near where you can get the N at Montgomery or Embarcadero but between the walk and being further down the line it will take quite a bit longer to get to UCSF. Also check out anywhere convenient to the UCSF shuttles, I'm not really sure where they stop.

Sausalito would be sunnier I think but I don't think it's for everyone, I've only been there once but it seemed kind of lame, like a place for old ladies to walk around looking at art galleries, but a lot of people seem to like it. You'd want a car to get around there though and I think it can be expensive to rent there (though SF is too).
