Bay suburb housing costs (Fremont, Sunnyvale: for sale, rent, condos)

I have a relative doing interviews with stanford, problem is for them thy don't have much in the way of making a down payment on a place like a condo out there, what are some ares nearby that they could live in? that are fairly affordable or are there none I know it has a rep for being expensive? rent or buy if they eventually decide?

everything seems 300 and up and they I think have a budget of 250 or so, condos are fine, it doesnt have to be a house

maybe about 45 mins commute to stanford

Maybe look into condos in Fremont. Silicon Valley is expensive esp. around Palo Alto.

Can you be more specific about the size and the neighborhood that they want?

There are some sub-$250k condos in Mountain View and Sunnyvale, just south of Palo Alto. Mostly one or two bedrooms under 900 sq ft.

about 1000 sqf , this person is 58 and single has two little dogs, so something of a yard would be good, and perhaps areas to drive to walk the dogs.Or a park or something.

one bedroom is Aok, they drive, don't need public transit, something of a nice and clean neighborhood, doesn't need to be too posh or anything
