They're just as sensitive and soft-hearted as the next guy, but they hide their vulnerability beneath a crust of misanthropy. They ease the pain by turning hurt into humor. . . . . . While I've never met you in person, somehow this does seem to describe you well.

It's part of what drove me to retirement several years earlier than planned and optimum. After working all those years in state politics I absolutely knew how it worked/didn't work too well and why and could no longer hold it in or play the game. Right-think, aka: political correctness, which I never indulged anyway, had become a tumultuous roar and rather than get angry, as opposed to bemused and merely disgusted, I chose to leave.

My boss once "accused" me of terrorizing legislative staffers with my honesty and outspokeness for the sake of accuracy. I like to think he was right.

I guess curmudgeonliness as a condition became ingrained then graduated to an identy.

Well if being outspoken is a prerequisite for curmudgeonliness, then I'll be right behind you in a two or three decades albeit for different reasons

I think what San Francisco has more than anything are spotty looking eldery Asian folks who look like my grandparents on my mother's side of the family who live in the Sunset. I think they are so cute though (not in that way ).

Ultimately, I don't think that there is any city on the map that is paved with supermodels. Not even NYC. NYC has a lot of average looking people. Not everyone is hot anywhere. Being attractive is being above average. I'm sorry. And like I said before, everyone has different tastes. Every big city in America has ridiculously hot women. This girl, who was on MTV's Real World back in 2000, is very fine (in my opinion as a twenty something) and she's from San Francisco and there are a good amount of women who look like her in the Bay. If you could have a girl like this is in SF, why would you go anywhere else?! However, unfortunately she is gay like many women in the Bay Area. My point is you could find a good looking girl in DC, SF, NYC or LA if you lived there long enough with the right amount of luck.

True, and it is not realistic to think that the Bay Area (~7.5 million people) has no attractive women.

Having said that, I would say that the proportion of attractive women here is less than some other sunbelt cities. Its not that they're genetically less attractive, but are less likely to dress sexy, less likely to be tan or have work done than warmer areas (there are exceptions though).

What I have found is that as there are less hot women, those that are like a 6 or a 7 act as if they're a 9 or a 10, just because they have reasonable good looks and brains. These same women would be more self conscious in other cities because there would be much more competition.

What about the attractiveness of the men? I know the thread is about the women being unattractive, but are the male counterparts particularly handsome? It seems to me that in general men tend to always seek out "hot" women to date - whether he himself is a 1 or a 10. Women, however, tend to go for someone at their own level of attractiveness. Just one general observation I have made.

Also, some posters keep mentioning women having "tans" as some level of "hotness"....isn't tan sort of an 80's/90's look and outdated? Movie stars and supermodels these days have natural skin tones (not tans). "Tan" is synonymous with "sun damage," ask any dermatologist. Usually men seem to prefer nice, smooth "youthful" skin from what I have noticed. Sun damage is the antithesis of this. Personally, I think both men and women, of all ethnicities, look most attractive sans sun damage, and sporting their natural skin tone - whether that be fair, olive, naturally dark complected etc...

Ahh, more complete generalizations.

Seeing as i live next to hipster central (the mission), and see 500 hipsters every single day, I would have to disagree. Yeah there are ugly hipster chicks, just as their are ugly non-hipster chicks...but there are definitely a lot of hot ones too. And i'm talking about the people themselves, not their wacky clothing styles.

Don't know what it is, but SF is plagued with hipster, hippie type chicks who... are pretty cool in many ways, but are usually very dumpy and plain.

Go clubbing on weekends in Sactown and you will see rank 9 and 10 hotties wearing the skimpiest clothing around town. Nowhere in SF will you see girls that hot. And the difference between Sac and Socal is that those girls don't even know how hot they are. A lot are down to earth and friendly.

Is it really that hard to not wildly exaggerate things? There are plenty of attractive girls in SF, end of story.

I can't believe so many people are buying into this crap...hey guys guess what, i heard they all eat hot dogs and pizza all day long in NYC, and half the girls are ghetto puerto rican chicks with an attitude who look like J-Lo, and the rest of the people are yuppies and mafioso types who don't take no crap, cuz New York is DOG EAT DOG man, and they all say "New Yawk" too. It's true, the internet and/or the dude at the bus stop told me so. Also every woman in the south and the midwest is fat, and every woman in LA has fake boobs and a second job as an actress and/or porn star.

I saw a decent amount of attractive women went I went down there over 4th of July weekend, but most of them aren't the LA or Dallas barbie doll type. I saw some of those types at one club I went and checked for fun, but they seemed like the tourist or B&T types to me who just came to the city to whoop it up for the evening. (You see a lot of that in Manhattan too: "so where you from?" "Oh, I'm from Long Island" "Sweet")
