I don't understand this sentence. So I can't understand your point.

You made a list of things (for example public masturbation, defecation, drug use etc)
And I was in agreement that those are things that I wouldn't like to see personally or bring my kids around. I said I didn't understand how some people can try to make it seem like such behaviors were "normal" and try to paint others as "scared" or "cowards" if they don't agree.

Thats it.

Take a picture of the neighborhood to give context to where the houses are, and what the neighborhood feels like. These photos are like those Craig's list Apartment rental photos where they take the best angle, so it looks nice, but when you actually go the neighborhood and see the place it's not so nice.

Do a google street view of Oakland.

Found this about The Landing at Jack London square on a website:

"Recently the Oalkand Police Department raided an apartment in the Landing and found large amounts of various drugs and items associated with prostitution, which is tied to organized crime in the area. Management knew about this problem for months but failed to act on it. They will spin everything and lie to your face. They also write lease agreements that would tie down the devil. Read the paragraph about how your safety is not managements problem.

I've live there about a year and a half, it is by far the worst management company to deal with. The location is decent, close to JL Square, by the estuary, the pool and work out room are nice, as well as the maintenance of the grounds, but that doesn't make up for poor customer service, heartless treatment of residents and fake fascades. The construction is poor = noise, the design is bad = no ventilation in the bathrooms. Maintenance crew is nice. Still none of this matters when you consider managements non-intervention with problems in the complex and complete denial of there existance.

The Landing at Jack London Square should be shut down, it endagers it's residents through naivity and cruel uncaring business practices. You know how in fairy tales the bad guys/girls often disguise themselves as a handsome/pretty and charming person. Don't buy it, sooner or later you'll realize you bit the poison apple."

RE: Weed in public (aka, it is what it is).

Picture the scene. Backside at Kirkwood, by the little food shack. Sitting there on the plastic chairs out in front eating lunch. A small group skis in and sits about 20 feet away - a Baby Boomer (~ mid to late 50s) dad and two sons in their 20s. They get lunch and start to eat. One son whips out a massive spleef and fires it up. The three of them pass it around.

So, the point is, when affluent people are toking in public, it is what it is. I hereby do not reveal my own opinion about this issue, I only am presenting something I saw.

Again there's no neighborhood photos? What's the street like?
What's located a block a way? Two blocks away?
I guarantee you that it's not good.

It's degenerate behavior just like scratching your testicles or sticking your hands down your pants. I don't care if the Pope himself is smoking dope in public, it's not classy, it's trashy. Just because affluent people are doing it, doesn't make it right.

Here's a word of advice on how to behave in every day public--

Ask your self, would I do this in front of my Mother or Father, or Grandparents, or in front of school children. If the answer is "No" then don't do it.

I know a lot about Oakland since I used to live by there.
Would you consider Piedmont as Oakland? I don't.

This guy knows a lot about Oakland.

YouTube - Violent Crime & Arrest Rates In Oakland | 2002-2006

If you live in Piedmont but live only 3 or 4 blocks away from a grimey area, Piedmont becomes a bad area in my mind. Piedmont is surrounded by a ghetto. Oakland is bad.

Oh and by the way making $100,00 a year won't get you anything nice in the Bay Area, try $200,000 a year and live in Marin.
