We just moved to this area my husband's work is at Foster City and i work at San Rafael, what would be the best place to live, considering the following factors

Prices
Commute
Weather (Fog etc..)
Good community

We have a 2 year old and is considering some good day care too.. Please advice.

Can you also throw some light on the peak time commute across the golden gate bridge - going from SFO to San Rafael.

I suggest Albany in the East Bay. Best schools. Great restaurants and cafes. Very pedestrian oriented. Great weather. You would cross the Richmond bridge and your husband would cross the San Mateo.

In Foster City, the wife's commute would be gross to San Raphael. Two bridges anyway you cut it.

Thanks Much for sharing your thoughts.

I tried finding apartments/homes at albany but couldn't find many, but lot found in El Ceritto. Is this a nice place?. The rent seem to be in ranges as close that in San Rafael area. I was looking at Craig's list, rent.com, apartments.com & move.com. Are there any other sources of info.

Thanks

Spend the research time needed to be in Albany. It will be WELL worth it. The schools are great. Great community. El Ceritto, not so much.

Default Consolidate?

Apologies for not reading your post carefully enough. I agree that the commute from FC to SR would be brutal. Question: can you guys iterate toward a more feasible solution? These two cities are so darn far apart, the logistics will drive you mad and rob the joy of living in the Bay Area. Foster City schools are arguably the best in the central and north Bay Area, excepting the ultra-wealthy enclaves like Hillsborough. Clean, safe, high tech, right on the Bay, 20 minutes to the Ocean, 30 minutes to the heart of Silicon Valley. I would go with Alameda/Albany for now, but only as a stepping stone. Working and living on the Peninsula will make your life a hell of a lot easier.

Best of luck,
S
