This fesitval is only running today from 10:00-4:00 PM. If you're at all interested, you should come... this may be the last year of the festival due to a smaller city budget for festivals and parades. It celebrates the uncelebrated history of black cowboys in the west coast... it is the only celebration of its kind in the world. It starts in Defremery Park in West Oakland, runs through downtown and returns to the park where a festival will go on until 4:00.

Why some of the negative posts? I look at this as a celebration of a heritage not often discussed in school so easily. I'm Black and I never learned about such African-American cowboys like Bill Pickett, or that 1/3 of the cattlemen of the West were people of color while I was in class. I learned about this when I went to the library.
