What's the best way to get around and travel around the city?

I work regular business hours 8-5 and traffic is going to be hell if I drive.

I'm thinking Cal train is the best bet to get me from SJ to SF. My building is 1.7 miles from the closest cal train station. I'm thinking bringing an electric scooter with me. What else can I use to get around?

Roller Skates? Seriously.

If the sidewalk conditions can handle it, and your route isn't too crowded or hilly it might be the easiest thing to do in regards to cost, storage, and legality.

2 miles is pretty far on skates. I know Muni drops the ball at Caltrain but a bus/train or the electric scooter you mentioned sounds a lot better than skates or hoofing it.

Skating is out of the question, beside I can't imagine swing back and forth on the skate with my notebook bag. Does SF require you to wear a helmet say if the scooter go less than 15mph? I'd hate to fix my hair all neat and have to wear a helmet to the office.

Including the 4 stops it should take 1 hour according to a friend who's been taking the route for 6 years. Our hours are different, but maybe we can consider carpooling. He works 1/4 mile from my building.

BTW: Is there any parkings around the intersection of Mission and Main by the PGE building?

Well, PG&E has parking under the building but that's for execs and other miscellaneous lucky souls. When I worked for PG&E, I used the Beale Street parking lot under the Transbay Terminal over ramp. It's a half block to the main PG&E building, between Mission and Howard and right next to the Beale Street Bar and Grill which has great hamburgers and nice cold beer.

As for the helmet, you're required to wear at least a bicycle helmet. Of course you see people all the time not wearing helmets on these things but they can give you a ticket for any number of "offenses" such as riding it on the sidewalk, not walking it across intersections, not using bike lane, not having a headlight after dark, etc.

Can you take the CalTrain from Bernal Heights to Santa Clara? Does anyone know if it drops near Lakeside Drive? How long does the CalTrain take to travel from City to Santa Clara?

Lucky souls would include politicians, lobbyists, some of the secretaries having affairs with the more important execs, etc. It's not open to the general public. The Beale Street lot I mentioned is a public lot and would work for you if you went the carpool route.
