The criminals aren't going to haul ass through town, and thereby endanger innocent citzens, if there are no cops chasing them. Police need to carefully weigh that fact before deciding whether to continue a chase through a crowded area.

A pedestrian got killed recently next to SJSU due to a high-speed chase through the neighborhood. Had a lot of people rethinking their view on the subject.

On the other hand, if they know the cops aren't going to chase and apprehend them, there isn't much of an incentive to obey the law.

Thus the dilemma.

Maybe we should just hit 'em with drones and be done with the chase. More dilemmas.

I'm in agreement with you. Los Angeles revisited this policy some years ago and I'm not sure but they may have changed their policy due to the danger of it. I can't find any reason good enough to endanger more innocent lives. Just try to catch the criminal later.

They're not obeying the law now while they know the cops will chase them otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion. You're thinking like a normal person, a criminal mind operates quite differently.

I think something else may have went on near the lake again this morning. I heard a bunch of sirens again, this time they seemed to be coming from near the 12th st./ International area. I couldn't see anything though as I was at the bird refuge near Perkins and Bellevue.

Anyone know what happened on Friday? There were helicopters circling downtown for at least an hour in late afternoon.
