For a family neighborhood, your best bet would be .... wait for it.... don't get ahead of me...

Alameda!

Alameda is great cul-de-sac of a community right in the bay. The size is right. Crime is low. The schools are good.

I'd have to agree. Alameda is the place. Nice marinas too, if you're into boating.

I am originally from NYC and we moved to the East Bay three years ago. Our starting off point was Alameda. You are very lucky. The island is a wonderful place with good schools, nice shopping, great views of the Bay and SF. Crime is low but housing prices are high. Be prepared for sticker shock!

Alameda is great! Also very easy to bike and walk around. Lots of parks too.

Dublin has better schools than Concord, and should be an easier commute to Alameda than Concord. There are about 2 "bad" blocks in Dublin. You are safe anywhere in town. Bad isn't really bad, by anyone's definition. They just look a little rundown.

I'd pick Dublin.

(For Concord you'd either need to drive South on 680 to basically Dublin and then go north to Alameda or deal with the Caldecott tunnel (and get caught in the Bay Bridge traffic) to get to Alameda.

Dublin should take about 20 minutes to get to Alameda.

Alameda is right next to Oakland...one of the most gang infested cities in California.

Be careful letting your kids run around.

I used to live there 25 years ago and hang at Washington Park...going by there today I see mainly black thugs. I had my bike taken from me by one 25 years ago and now the park is full of them.
