I would move to SF in a blink but I know nothing about Tech Field except being an end user. My lifelong gig has been in the construction field, (management/Supervision), but I hear unemployment is high in all of California. Heck its over 13% here in Miami where could it be any worse? Anyone suggest how I get a job in a down market-historic restoration of Victorians perhaps or highrise condo interiors?? Do I really need a local address on my resume and a Local T-Mobile Sim? Should I just vacation there and try to land an interview? I get no responses from employers since I am located out of town.

In California overall it's sputtering around 12%.

Here in the Bay Area it's a bit better than that, hovering around 10%, however, the trick here is that there is an undue concentration of upper management / tech development / legal / professional type jobs making up our employment figures. Contrast with counties just 100 miles from here that have 20% plus unemployment.

The construction field is virtually lifeless, it picked up a little bit this year but there are still more workers than jobs.

Employers aren't ignoring you because you're from out of town, it's because every day there are tens of people knocking on that same door looking for work. Also, to work in SF, it's important that you know the local building code like the back of your hands. Nimbism and strict building inspection means you will be punished for every little mistake. Contractors, at least the good ones, usually like to work with guys who know the book well.

Btw, are you a contractor? If not, I'd suggest you get a license and then perhaps more doors will open for you.
