here's a tip when purchasing foods that are marked buy one get one free or whatever

this means the food is OLD STOCK! they need to move it before it's not sellable

bought dried mushrooms to make soup at the buy one get one free price and a short time later beetles hatched and they were all over my closet, sometimes these little moths hatch and eat through the bag if the product has been on the store shelf too long

when you see packaged foods that they are trying to sell extra cheap thats a good indication the food is old and stale

Another tip:

Avoid the green meat labeled "30% Off" in Safeway's clearance section.
Reeeeealy not worth it.

Most of the time, you can tell if the produce and/or meat is good or not by looking at it. For fish: look at the eyes. Clear eyes = good, red eyes = bad.

And, as I've said in different topic: Safeway is the wrong place for everything.

Interesting, had not heard of that before regarding the eyes. Thanks for the tip!

Another rule concerning the freshness of fish. It should *not* have a fishy Oder. In other words. If it smells like fish? Its likely stale. If it is truly fresh. And the eyes should be clear and not cloudy.
