Same thing is true in Oakland and SF (and Berkeley) there are plenty of neighborhoods you can live in drama free. But I personally find, when comparing Oakland to SF, the problems are a whole lot closer to the affluent areas in SF than Oakland. (Ahem, homeless people are all over the place in areas like Pac Heights and Russian Hill.)

In Oakland, not at all. I can't think of a single panhandler I have seen in Rockridge ever (in the passt 12-15 years). On Piedmont Ave, there are about 2 people peddling Street Spirits during the workday. At Grand Lake there are maybe 5 during the work day or on Saturday afternoon. I don't feel harassed like I do in SF or Berkeley.

In SF, all day, all night, all the time in every neighborhood. It is just strange.

I wonder if a certain waiter with a "PhD" decided to make an account here again.

Yes, that appears to be the case. The SF forum attracts the most 'fantastic' forumers.

- Geographical happenstance

- Lifestyle

- Population density and degree of urbanization.

- Variations in composition of the population, particularly youth concentration.

- Stability of the population with respect to residents’ mobility, commuting patterns, and transient factors.

- Modes of transportation and highway system.

- Economic conditions, including median income, poverty level, and job availability.

- Cultural factors and educational, recreational, and religious characteristics.

- Family conditions with respect to divorce and family cohesiveness.

- Climate.

- Effective strength of law enforcement agencies.

- Administrative and investigative emphases of law enforcement.

- Policies of other components of the criminal justice system (i.e., prosecutorial, judicial, correctional, and probational).

- Citizens’ attitudes toward crime.

- Crime reporting practices of the citizenry.

These are the factors that can affect individual crime risk. Saying "3x more likely" is misleading and unfounded, because it does not take into proper consideration of these factors.

Actually, this is exactly what you are doing. No one cares if you have enmity towards Oakland, or Los Angeles. May you never cross these cities limits.

And life goes on......

So you don't dispute that the homicide rate in Oakland is triple that of L.A. That means citizens of Oakland are three times more likely to be murdered - even if its the brown ones you don't think count.

77% of homicide victims in Oakland are black, 15% are hispanic.

You sure don't know much about your own city, bucko.

If you had any clue whatsoever about the politics in Oakland, the very, very last thing you'd insinuate is that the average Oaklander doesn't care about the murder rate because the victims are minorities. You're as ignorant as they come and willfully so.
