I'll be in Oakland next week for a few days. Can you recommend hotels in Oakland or close by for under $100. It doesn't need to be fancy and won't be at that price. I'd just like something clean and safe. Thanks.

Try the airport. Oakland is really under-hotelled for a city of its size. There aren't as many as you think there would be.

Also, Emeryville has a nice group of hotels right around tons of shopping, dining and entertainment and closer to Downtown as the airport is.

Yeah I'd look at places near the Oakland airport, it's actually a pretty nice part of the city even though it's near the crappy area around the Coliseum. Oakland just does not have that many hotels at all, there are a few downtown but I bet they're over $100 a night. I know you can get hotels near the SF airport that are around $60-80 a night, I dunno what rates are like near the Oakland airport.

My cousin always stays at the Motel 6 on the Embarcadero in Oakland. Right on the edge of the Oakland estuary, all rooms open onto the water. Nice, clean, safe.

I thought about opening another thread, but this is close enough. How are the vacancy rates overall during this Occupy evolution, or movement? I want to move back into Oakland, but need to hit at the highest vacancy rate. Are the Hotel/Motel rooms being taken by families of protesters? What about the monthly Hotels like the Avondale, Aztec, California, Palm, Travelors, Menlo, Ridge, San Pablo, and Sutter Hotels.

Thank you for the replies. They are helpful. I, too, have been wondering about the Occupy issue- how long it will last and hotel availability.

For one thing the hotels near the airport are a few miles from downtown where the protests are. Also the whole point of OWS is to sleep outside in the plaza so I don't think many are using hotels. And most people protesting are from within a few hours of Oakland so if they're coming here they probably just go home at night if they aren't sleeping out in the plaza (and it's a pretty small number that is staying there every night).

Hi Criss the hotels you mentioned are residential flop houses. I would not recommend them for tourists.

Stay away from the two in Jack London Square. Both are over priced for their condition. Their prices also jump up significantly on weekends, so that "good" deal of $103 on Thursday night, goes to $158 on Friday and Saturday. Add in another ~$30 for taxes and you'll wish you had stayed closer to the airport.
