Ok, this isn't really a San Francisco city question, but I'm hoping someone will be able to help. We are planning to move from India to San Francisco, and we will bring our cat along. The federal site says that a checkup is required on arrival, but also goes on to say that state-specific requirements may also exist. Does anyone know what the requirements are for bringing a cat into California? Also, does anyone have any experience doing something like this? What is the best airline for pet travel?

Any help appreciated, a little stressed over this. Searching online hasn't resulted in specific information so far maybe I should just get some sleep and try again tomorrow!

I found this info for you. Luckily, it seems there isn't too much hassle or requirements for bringing cats into the state. Pet Importation

Seems like the biggest hassle is finding a good airline to accommodate your cat and not put her under too much stress.

Just don't let the animal travel in cargo.

Thanks clongirl.
@krudmonk - really? On one site I read a review that continental airlines is best for this, and they only take in a heated and pressurized cargo area.

I'd recommend taking the cat up with you in the cabin. Then you'd at least have peace of mind that your cat is taken care of and is doing ok. Your cat would also likely take it easier knowing that you're close by. I personally wouldn't trust airline personnel to not lose my cat like luggage...but I'm also a bit of a worrier!

Don't be surprised if the biggest hassle is finding a landlord here who allows a cat.
