I'm seeing multimillion dollar places that are not mansions and meanwhile I am seeing places that are like $250 - 300K that are at least a 3/1.5.

What is up with this?

Is there a really bad hood in Sonoma that has West Contra Contra-esque prices?

If it's considered bad, why is that? Is it meth-trailer trash land, a barrio or a hood? Or some other reason (e.g. a Superfund site, for example).

Really curious. Not completely ruling out the North Bay for the inevitable cash out at or a bit before so called retirement.

Any Sonoma residents (or past ones) who can comment?

Maybe it's a secret the locals are sworn to protect.

I'm guessing I'm seeing prices in the mini barrio (which no doubt exists in a certain corner of town).

Somebody's gotta do the dirty work maintaining the swanky estates.

Are you talking county or town of Sonoma? In the town there is definitely an area that is predominantly Hispanic.

It's probably Tom Waits in Sebastopol driving up all the aging hipster prices.

Yea, OP need sto be more specific. Boyes and Fetters hot springs, in Sonoma town, are not as easy on the eyes; and yes, as someone mentioned, also happens to be more hispanic/agricultural worker.

And, areas of Santa Rosa, largest city in sonoma county, have noteable gang issues and crime. Part of the russian river area-guerneville, monte rio, etc. are cheaper, but they are also plagued by crime and the ever increasing meth issue. Rhonert Park is a planned city; the homes are sterile and cul-de-sac designed. Some are priced in the range OP mentioned. It's big box store and plaza-ville. Some people like it and some of the homes there are in a higher price range. But there's def. an inventory in the lower range.

Also, perhaps OP is looking at short sales or foreclosures?
Or wealtlhy enclaves that are not mansions but perhaps the lots are large, such as in sebastopol? Who knows? Tough to say w/o more info....but no, nowhere in sonoma would be, in my mind, like living in contra costa couty.

LOL! Sorry I don't live in Sonoma, but it seems like really wealthy people live there....or just basically in the North Bay.

Don't shoot me.
