Not necessarily going to go broke when you [attempt to] retire...working people these days just have to quit burning through their savings thinking they're all going to get the Golden Parachute past generations got. In other words, we know retirement really doesn't exist antmore.

When that 80 year old Paramedic shows up becuase you had a heart attack?
When the 80 year old Police show up to tear gas citizens rising up against their 1% masters?
When the 80 year old Fireman shows up to put your house out?

Lazy good for nothing public servants

What about the Army?

Statistically then, date of retirement would likely be preceeded by day of death for many.

When that 80 year old Paramedic shows up becuase you had a heart attack?
And dies of his or her own heart attack trying to lift you onto the gurney.
When the 80 year old Police show up to tear gas citizens rising up against their 1% masters?
And doesn't have the visual accuity to aim the cannister nor the coordination to insure he/she doesn't end up spraying themselves.
When the 80 year old Fireman shows up to put your house out?
And can barely make water anymore, much less point a hose, including his own.

Of course, as with just about everything. But those people aren't the norm, yet!

Though there is truth to what you say, as a member of those who are not "normal", I naturally protest.

You're just showing off, it still makes no more sense than a blind Traffic Officer

You might want to consider saving enough that you can retire on your schedule instead of somebody else's or Wells Fargo's.

I retired in 2009, and I'm now self-employed (part time). Big improvement.

The big banks want you to stay in debt until you drop. If you convince yourself 80's the new 65, then how about that 50 year mortgage! How about that second! How about that line of credit!

It used to be said, get out debt before you retire. The Boomers have broken that rule big time and now people are really sloppy at an advanced age.

The crisis just keeps getting deeper, no end in sight.
