Wells found in a survey that 25 percent of middle class Americans think they’ll have to keep working until they hit 80 to be able to retire.
And three quarters of them think they’ll still have to work after they’ve retired anyway.

“The fact that the vast majority of middle class Americans expect to work well past the traditional retirement age has significant societal and economic implications,” said Joe Ready, director of Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust.

Good luck to anyone under the age of 40 wanting to get a raise or a promotion or an entry-level job, because the baby boomers are going to be camping out in their jobs forever.

Also I like how Wells Fargo is alerting us to this fact when it was banks like them that killed off everyone's 401(k) and pensions.

I'll be retiring in 2019, so at least one job opening will be available then.

If that story is true, the first baby boomers will turn 80 in 2026.

I hate to admit it, but there are certain jobs that I wouldn't trust an 80 year old having. I imagine some jobs would need forced retirements.

They say this because they, the bankers want us to scare us into saving. Kidding aside, they could be right.

At least a few of the companies I've worked with start reducing benefits after a certain age so it's in your best interest to retire on their schedule instead of yours.

People who work in corporations probably won't work until they're 80. At some point, usually when you're between 65 and 70, your company is going to offer you a lump sump retirement package. If you decide to stick around, then they'll just lay you off during the next downsizing, and you'll get nothing (or most likely a lot less in severance pay). This happens all the time.
