Hi

I am moving to the Bay area and was admitted to a Master's program at GGU. Being from outside of this area, I have never heard of the school. However, the degree is one I've been wanted to get for a couple of years now. There are less than 20 programs for this marketing degree in the country. Obviously there are much better programs out there (that cost even more than GGU). But that's besides the point. This is the only program in the Bay Area. Does this school have a good reputation or is it not regarded highly in the business world?

Depends on who you ask, but compared to top notch schools like Berkeley and Stanford it has nowhere near the same clout.

But honestly, Grad School is all about the connections you make anyway, so if you want to do the program, I'd say just go for it.

No idea how it's regarded in the business world but generally I'd say it's probably kind of low-ranked compared to UC Berkeley, Stanford, even USF maybe. They're supposed to be decent at providing financial aid though.

GGU is seen more as a career/vocational/commuter type school than a prestigious research facility. They run commercials on local TV stations, and rank low in almost all categories. However, it can also be a lot less expensive, and will offer scholarships that may negate some if not all of the cost of tuition if you're coming in with a good GPA, so that's a bonus. If you just need to get the piece of paper out of the way in a cheap, expedient way as a checklist item for a career you're already in, or you're just in it to learn more about your particular subject matter, it could be a good choice. If you're looking to compete in a new field with graduates from other MBA programs, you will probably be at a disadvantage, though having good work experience on your resume could make up for that.

It's geared toward "late bloomers." It's cheaper than other schools making it attractive for those taking advantage of employer subsidized education.

I went there for the DBA degree. It helped my career, for sure. Some of the people who I went to school with there are
now full time, tenured professors at various colleges around the US. There are a lot of graduates from the master's and DBA programs who have since become C-Suite executives. I recommend it.

I think the answer depends upon what you want to do, specifically, and where you want to be. If you want to share that, and your age, and your undergrad degree, and additional experienceI can tell you more. If you want to do marketing in the tech world here in the bay area, I'd say for sure do not invest 50 to 100k in a degree from GGU at all. I could suggest many other paths.

In general, Re: marketing, I can't believe getting anything other than an MBA degree from a top tier school would help compared to a focused effort at networking and building experience - without the debt. You should be able to get where you want to go without it....

So many graduate programs are BS. and I don't mean Bachelor of Science. It's very easy to get a degree and think you're on easy street to a job. Then after graduation day, you have no easier time getting a job than you would have otherwise.

It's not renowned for its academic stature but is a school for working adults which delivers a credible degree. Lots of judges have gone to their law school. I'd say go for it!

Don't go to a school just because it's in San Francisco.
