There's profound unfairness and injustice about this system. There're plenty of areas with RE that is still relatively cheap, however the government does not make any steps--for the ridiculous sake of "free market"?--("free" to rob citizens)--to ensure that jobs are dispersed and people can own homes.
Awesome, I just repeated this same thing while having a convo w/ my dad about moving. Yes .. Bam .. As much as people brag about the valley, it got kicked off by govt. investment and capital .. Its roots in technology were founded by govt. R&D during the war. Reading Steve Job's book, you read about a dad who was a mechanic and a mom who worked regular jobs who bought a house in Los Altos.. Impossible now-a-days for someone w/ even a Masters degree... Bam, you hit the nail on the head though and I totally agree.. I just mentioned w/ my father that for the sake of this country and the better QOL of its citizens, for jobs making more sense to exist in the U.S .. Agreed .. What I have seen though on my travels is that there are little seeds being planted across the U.S .. As I have mentioned many times, I'm leaving in 2012 headed to Florida. I have had many talks w/ friends/business associates during this time to make sure I make the right move.. I am amazed at how many are brainwashed into thinking things only happen here... My sentiment is, I am going to defy the odds and am quite passionate about it. Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Huh, a few artists from Europe had been moving to Detroit recently (because were getting free fixer homes!), why not start ups... it's funny how some engineers who're moving to SV to start own business had been paying 1K a month for a bunk bed in SV hostel-style, because they had nowhere else to stay. This defies logic and sanity. There's simply no stimulus to work hard when you know you never own a house in the area... it's like not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. A person gets attached to places where they live for a long time and puts down roots, whether they want it or not--then, having to endure heartbreak of moving away after years of renting and leaving everything you're used to--because older renters will not be able to survive here. Indeed, it is a real corporate FEUDAL system, because just like medeival peasants, these people can never own land/house and WILL always, forever depend on corporations for mere survival. Like someone had put it: "a new feudal era is coming, where the slaves will beg the masters to exploit them"--since everything had been done by the government to prevent people living off their own land. I know a person like that: they had been paying for the modest condo in SV ("renting from the bank"), for 15 years, working as test engineer for SV companies--never got to the principle--15 years of living with roommates, by the way--now they're foreclosed and left with nothing, and that person is older generation, so no way to start anew somewhere else. I'm saddened to see this. This is a future of many. I really wouldn't want to end up in subsidized housing down the road...

And how interesting is the resistance of corporations towards Americans doing telecommuting work... while Indian or Eastern European teams do just that for the same companies! Time to make this illegal. If you have offshore stuff, your US citizens should be able to do offshore-style as well. But no, they want to beat you into the ground and have you stuck working for them in the office in the area with astronomic rents and RE, while similar work is done by offshore group just fine. Then, they say: US citizens demand too much pay, we want to hire overseas.

Yes, instead of dispersing the jobs, helpless government can't even keep anything going in places that are completely down now while they're close to the Bay, like Sacramento. Would LIKE to start small organic goat farm in Oregon... guess what, small new farms can not survive or can just barely stay afloat, no profits really, only big ones--thanks to globalization. There's NO way these farmers will ever compete with producers from overseas/cheap labor. This is beyond me... the country beating own farmers into the ground. Yet--viva Monsanto monster! I heard of interesting community in Midwest, where people created eco-friendly collective organic farm and village and at the same time earn some income from telecommuting engineering work. This is the dream of the future. I'm telling you... I've seen a lot of things come to reality been called crazy or impossible during my life time (both bad and good). I'm sure you'll do quite well.

Is that a stock image of stereotypical techies? If so, LOL. Notice how they have included a tech guy from India wearing a turban with an ecstatic "glad to get a job in America" look, a couple of guys with glasses, some eastern Asians mixed in, a guy with a messenger bag worn across the chest, and plenty of plaid flannel shirts. Although I am not so sure if the guy next to the Indian looks like he belongs there. He looks more like he is ready to audition for an aftershave commercial with his sultry expression and deep V cut shirt, lol.

Yes, because instead, he and his boyfriend will rant incessantly on C-D about how he and his boyfriend hate SV and are so ecstatic to move away, since everyone left back here are all sad suckers and thus, all firmly beneath their contempt. But do enjoy the swamps - the housing stock is, in fact, cheaper.
