A lot of designers are up on Potrero Hill, but this neighborhood has shot up. Rented out a tiny 1BR for $2400 last summer. The rent was just $1300 just a few years ago for same apartment, however we did update with granite, new carpet, etc. Property values way down, but rents way up. It's competitive out there also. Last apartment I put on market this fall, potential tenants were offering me a full year of rent paid in advance to get in (this was on Potrero Hill) as there were so few vacancies. I had to turn down so many good applicants.

Glassdoor only works if you are working for a big company.

Well, you can get a sense of what the market is for a given title. With a few exceptions, you can see that most companies pay a reasonably similar salary "$x" for the position title "y". I would guess for smaller companies, you might expect a little less, but you would probably not see a huge difference for the given locale.

Smaller companies can easily be 25%-30% less.
