Hello,

I am moving from NYC to the Peninsula early next month. I am looking at jobs in both SV & SF so was thinking San Mateo is a good place to get setup initially. I am waiting for my spouse to move in June with the rest of our furniture so am considering furnished rental options. Any recomendations for 1 br rentals or where best to find them besides sublet.com or craigslist where there are few options? Also, for $3k/month is a house rental possible in a safe & nice neighborhood or does that price range keep us in apartments.

Thank you

$3k for a house rental is possible. A 1 bd apartment runs about $1500 - $1800. West of El Camino Real (Hwy 82) is the best area. Parts of the area east of there near the train tracks and 101 freeway is a little sketchy.

Consider neighboring cities like Foster City, Redwood Shores, and Belmont as well. $3k for a 2BR is more than adequate.

Yes it puts you in a good geographic position to be able to commute north to San Francisco, where there are a lot of jobs, south to Palo Alto (lots of jobs), and even more south to the South Bay (lots of jobs).

Take a look at any of the apartment complexes in the town of "Redwood Shores". Not technically San Mateo, but very close, and lots of upscale apartment buildings to choose from.
