Why would they change their brand if it's successful? If a new team were to set up camp in Santa Clara, it probably wouldn't be called "San Francisco," but there is a history and fanbase being maintained in the move down the road. Most of the region lives in smaller municipalities so they see "San Francisco," "Oakland" and "San Jose" as being homes teams just the same.

It's not about NIMBY, it's about the money. Look, I'd be the first to welcome a new stadium
anywhere in the Bay Area. But when you do a bait and switch election to dupe the voters, and you are a city council bought and paid for by the 9ers' current dirty ownership, these are the types of sleazebag antics one would expect. As I have said elsewhere, this is more Jersey than Jersey.
Slimy, dirty, horrible stuff.
Amazing that such (formerly?) high quality community as Santa Clara has fallen so far into the gutter. Unreal.

Also, Santa Clara's new mayor is anti-stadium, pretty much the opposite of Mahan who facilitated the deal to begin with.

Newhall *******s are certainly complaining about the EQ stadium, as are Santa Clarans are re: Niner stadium in addition to the money.

Same here. I was at a bar watching the Monday Night game vs. the Steelers, and ESPN showed some of the architectural design drawings for the Santa Clara stadium. Every single person at the bar was booing at the screen.
