Yawns.

Newsflash: Its not.
You're aware that white-black dissimilarity is exactly the same thing as black-white dissimilarity? If it helps assuage your chip feel free to consider where whites life in relation to other races. And it's a measurement of integration. If you're confused about the definitions of integration, try a dictionary.

CensusScope -- Segregation: Neighborhood Exposure by Race
Look at the the exposure difference between whites and blacks. A black person living in Oakland has a 50% exposure to blacks and only 15% exposure to whites.

As far as rankings...
CensusScope -- Segregation: Dissimilarity Indices
Oakland second most segregated white-Asian, San Francisco is 18th
CensusScope -- Segregation: Dissimilarity Indices
Oakland 9th most segregated white-black, SF 6th most segregated.
No rankings for Hispanics, but it's quite segregated in both.

Really, while the epeen contest of which is more integrated is interesting it sort of misses the broader point. Both San Francisco and Oakland are among the most racially segregated California cities. It's an exercise in the kettle calling the pot black.

Isnt it grand that the very stereotypes about Oakland that makes them feel superior can be totally thrown back at them when we make it a neighborhood vs neighborhood comparison?
Yes. That's been my point all along. Oakland taken as a whole is very diverse. Oakland on the aggregated neighborhood level, not so much. It has its diverse neighborhoods and its not diverse neighborhoods just like any place else. If people want to live in Rockridge, I've got nothing against it. Just get off the "I live in diverse Oakland" moral high ground. If people want to live in Marina, I've got nothing against that either. Same caveat applies.

His point is that there's no black-hispanic or asian-black or etc. comparison, which when taken together with the existing data provides more context than merely looking at dissimilarity for whites.

So then look at exposure by race vs overall population. The more integrated the more equal to overall population exposure should be.
CensusScope -- Segregation: Neighborhood Exposure by Race

I mean, the whole idea is that if aren't Hispanic but live in the same neighborhood you might actually view them as people rather than illegal Mexicans working in taquerias. Obviously, not exactly true of certain enlightened Rockridge residents.

LOL

That's hilarious considering the fact that Hispanics in Oakland actually constitute a near majority of middle class neighborhoods as well. I guess they feel like they are a part of the community, have a sense of dignity and pride in where they live.

What? That's the hood! There are no middle class areas in Oakland. It is only rich or poor.
