I am a 25 year old gay man looking to move to the San Francisco area from Southern California. What are some good areas to look into moving to and why? Preferably in or close to an area with a lot (or at least a decent amount) of jobs available. And would like within walking distance to stores and restaurants. That's all I can think of for now.

Thanks

And, if need be, I can spend more than $1000... but that's what I'm shooting for. And obviously that would be sharing an apt or renting a room.

It will really depend on where you get a job and how much you make, I'd focus on that first. $600 to $1000 will only get you a room in an apartment with roommates in SF, and you can get a studio in Berkeley or Oakland for around $800 to $1000, or live there with roommates for around $500 to maybe $900 a month. Most retail jobs here don't pay that well unless they're really high-end places, similar to anywhere in the US.

And it's difficult to get full time retail anymore.

Your question is so vague as to be completely unanswerable.
