Interesting blog post/article about what makes someone a native of San Francisco.

When Can You Call Yourself a Native?

Some of the logic here can be applied to other places as well.

Fun read!

Native (n): "A person born in a specified place or associated with a place by birth, whether subsequently resident there or not."

A native has to have been born in SF period. Being a native vs. being from there can be two different things.

What a bunch of malarkey. I think only one or two of them are natives.

So I'm a San Francisco native, by definition, born at Kaiser hospital there. I spend my first 3 days there but then went home with my Mom to our home in San Bruno. Never actually lived in SF but a native.

You'd be a native of San Francisco but from San Bruno.

It bugs me that being native of any place is made to be such a fetish. The simple truth is, where you were born is neither your fault nor your achievement. Get over it.

When I clawed my way out of that vile woman's wretched womb it was quite the achievement thank you.

I like this one:

Kate Ryken, raised in the Marina District: When you ask someone, “Where did you go to school?” if the respondent replies with the name of their college or university instead of their high school, they’re not from San Francisco.

San Francisco is not so different from anytown, USA.
