I will be flying into SFO sometime soon and I need to cover three areas: Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz and San Francisco.

I essentially am looking to hire someone for a few days to drive around with me in each place and show me the area so I can get a feel of each area. This person must have knowledge about each of the cities I need help with.

I would like to see the neighborhoods that are safe.
Go to places that will give me an idea of the type of people that are around, maybe stop for coffee and people watch.

I would pay $100/day and pay for all necessary expenditures while with me.

So bottom line I need someone that is willing to take this 2-3 day job with me to show me around so I can learn as much as possible so I can make a decision between SF, SR & SC. Actually Santa Rosa isn't a "sure thing" yet.

I decided to post this on city-data in the hopes that maybe some of the kind people here could recommend someone or even themselves. Not quite sure how to go about finding if a person is trustworthy: suggestions needed here! I just need to take this trip, bottom line, and I know I can't do it alone.

Thanks & I'm open to any suggestions!
Denise

Call a real estate agent, they'll do all that for free.

OP, is this for work, or retirement? If for work, where will your job be? Is weather a consideration? Santa Rosa is hot, and is rebuilding after a devastating fire. SF stays cool most of the time, too cool (foggy summers) for some people's taste. Also, it's very urban. Santa Cruz stays cool, but warms up late spring through fall after the morning fog burns off. Rarely gets seriously hot. Surrounded by redwood forests. Small-town, beach town vibe. SF, of course, is the most expensive of the three. Santa Cruz is scenic as he11, IMO, & laid back, with some homeless issues downtown, but nowhere near as much as SF and SR.

This is just FYI, in case you have some preferences that would help you choose among those.

This does not strike me as a very good idea. If you are relying on this person for something more than driving, then your entire idea of these places will be based on what this individual knows (and not that many people will be intimately familiar with all 3 cities). Further, there is zero chance that $100/day will get this for you. Just getting basic transportation by private car between these places will cost you that much. Your best bet is to research the neighborhoods of each city online, then stay the night in the neighborhoods that appeal to you.

$100/day is chump change. You will not get valuable insights at that price.

Those are 2012 prices and Denise is a top-model with enough cleavage to hide an undocumented worker.

Original post is 6 years old, lol...

If it weren't, I'd do it not only for the money - but because I actually love playing tour guide! It's fun to show people "my city" (SF), and you can't get the insider's view by hiring a tour company or travel agency. Just sayin'.

Thank you for pointing that out. I see it was resurrected by someone whose post has now been deleted. There was a post right above mine, that was recent.
