1) On a sailboat at a marina in Redwood City.

2) In an Airstream trailer in my new office's parking lot.

3) In an apartment in or around Palo Alto.

4) On a sailboat on a trailer at an Airstream dealership.

5) In an Airstream trailer in your neighborhood with a key to your house to use the bathroom late at night and sneak slices of American cheese from your fridge to plug the holes in my sailboat.

Oh...jesus...it appears I'm 30 next week. And you know what else is neat? In writing this, I have determined the best solution. But in any case, where would you live if you commuted to Palo Alto?

Let me also say I'm moving from the Seattle area and am looking forward to some VITAMIN D!!

I don't really get what the OP is getting at, but no. I wouldn't move to one of the most expensive areas in the country to live on a boat or motorhome.

Haha. This is a strange mix of options, but I like real buildings. I'd go for the apartment.

Geez, making it sound like Palo Alto is a terrible place. Sure, its not the city if you're single, but it is is pretty nice. There are plenty of places to hang out. It has a nice downtown, as do many of the surrounding cities (Menlo Park, Los Altos, Mountain View, etc). I used to live in the city and can honestly say that while I do miss some of the amenities, I'll never move back. The climate is just so much better down here. If I want to go up to the city, its not that far of a drive/train trip on a weekend.

I lived on my boat in RWC for years. Loved it.

Can none of you read? The first part of the post was a joke, the actual question is "But in any case, where would you live if you commuted to Palo Alto?"

And the answer is... what's your budget? What's your lifestyle? What amenities do you want/need/can do without? Urban or suburban? Car or public transport only? etc etc etc

You're 30? Single? Maybe a techie?

Apartment/condo in Mountain View. More going on/more young people like you.

But I also don't mind the boat idea....
