You're right. I forgot we were talking JUST about the Sunset. I went to law school at USF, and we'd have like 3 warm days in January, and 3 warm days in October.

I would NEVER live in the Sunset. Heck, I can't even live in the City. I'm in the East Bay and enjoy sitting in the sun and seeing the City in the fog.

The first time I visited SF, in 1999, was in the summer and every word of the apocryphal "coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in SF" rang true.

SF's year round cool weather is a major part of the appeal to me. I am tired of months and months in Houston with 90-100+ weather and oppressive humidity. 60-70 degrees is my favorite temperature. I was in SF a few weeks ago; it way rainy a couple days, which was just OK, but on the sunnier days it was just perfection.

You can def hear them, its horrible.

I keep my windows open year round and can hear them on Russian Hill. I love them. They lull me to sleep on foggy nights.

Yeah, and Lower Pacific Heights is located maybe roughly 3.5 miles between the GG & Bay bridges, so that could mean people living there could hear the fog horns from the tower bases of both bridges.

I live up on the side of Bernal hill, and I think the fog horns I hear are from the Bay Bridge which is about 3.5 or 4 miles away from me. They're loud enough for me to enjoy hearing them in the distance on foggy nights even when I have the windows closed. They're are very calming ... but probably not for people who live so close to them that they can feel them.

I'm guessing the Holly Court project area, in the South of Bernal Heights, is where all or most of the murders happened.

Other than some occasional home burglaries and auto break-ins, most of Bernal Heights has low crime rates when compared to a lot of other parts of this city.

I live up on the North side of Bernal, where a lot the houses sell for $1 million and more these days, and it's much safer area than even the nearby lower Mission area. The lower Mission still has high crime rates, but it doesn't have anywhere near as much crime as it used to have in the past.

If you don't want to believe me about the low crime rates in Bernal Heights, check the police crime maps occasionally to compare the crime rates between Bernal Heights & the Mission.

The crime map is also good to monitor to see what kinds of crimes happen most in different parts of the city. If I were planning to move, I'd want to monitor the particular street & neighborhood on the crime map first.
