Close to getting a fantastic job working from home in the city but my wife wants to move back to NYC. What are some good tactics...

Honestly, urban life is over rated. I am living in Phoenix, AZ for the last 6 months and in the beginning I used to get stressed about the lack of dense urban amenities in the Phoenix Valley compared to SF. I am now realizing that a drive to Grand Canyon and Monument Valley over the weekend is much more satisfying than brunch/dinner/party/drinks/movies/theaters etc. SF/Bay Area is a great compromise, IMO. Live the urban life when needed and drive to Tahoe, Yosemite, PCH 1 at other times. My dream is to drive from Phoenix via Death Valley and High Sierras to SF this summer. I would say for your wife, a drive down PCH is in order.

Any prospective employee or dependent who cannot quickly fathom income potential, std of living, QOL, etc diffces btwn SV/SF and NYC deserves their own choices....and outcomes

Life is too short to convince people who cannot "get" such simple comparables analyses which 1000s of smart, high-earning people have analyzed and chosen amongst over past 20+yrs

And gap btwn NYC and SV/SF is now massive (often 100% higher pay and 50% lower COL in SV/SF for comparable-stage careers) vs even 15yrs ago when many NYC IBers pondered moving to Menlo/SF to do tech IB, PE, etc during early stages of that TechBoom/Bubble...and know almost none of that gen who have ever left SV....many are now retired by own choice and are amused by how they ever chose to live in slums of Luddite NYC as a kid financier....the fallacies of youth perhaps

I dislike most New Yawkers. Living among New Yawkers is my idea of the Theological Location of Eternal Punishment.
