I believe, one of the most expensive areas in the Bay Area.

Woodside, CA. my dream place to live!
It is not as expensive relative to the peninsula as everyone makes it out to be. If you live up by skyline blvd. you can find places around a million. The reason the properties are cheaper here is the land is more sloped, properties have more shade, and its farther away from the down town areas of woodside and neighboring towns.

Closer to 280, you will find flatter properties. Here the acreage is more useable and so the properties cost much more. You have to have a few million to buy here. The price is kind of dictated by how much useable land you want. Its a dream place for me to live because its a nice balance of agriculture with city. The roads are packed with bikers and joggers, and the city hosts many community events/fairs. Lots of trails, and a cool downtown area.

I guess if you have a high budget you can look at:

Portola Vally
Palo Alto
Los Altos
Los Altos Hills
Atherton
Hillsborough

Even though people always say "Hillsborough is all residential" it practically borders the Burlingame downtown, and it is very close to San Mateo's down town, so I don't know why people always point out that its all residential.

They say Hillsborough is all residential because it is! Hillsborough has only single family homes, no apartments, no condos, no townhouses. There is no "Hillsborough downtown" shopping area or other businesses within their city. Hillsborough is very close to Burlingame and San Mateo downtown areas....but the downtown areas are not within Hillsborough city limits.

The area around Canada Road is the most affordable, it's smaller homes packed in fairly tightly that run around $1M+. The upper Skyline Blvd. area is less, but is unincorporated Woodside and has little in the way of services.

The most desirable part of Woodside is considered to be Woodside Heights on the east side of 280, near the high school. But unless you're moving here because you just bought a venture-capital firm, good luck. If you're a horsey person, look at the Mountain Home Road area.
